I started my affair with Volvo in 1996 after I was rear ended while sitting still in traffic on the Gardiner expressway in Toronto by the Palace Pier. The person who hit me was charged with careless driving. I decided it was time for a Volvo. I started with a 96 855 GLE M in pewter silver. I became obsessed with the Volvo driving experience and became much more interested in motoring. I decided to attend 3 days of extended driving instruction at the Bridgestone racing academy. We had lots of in class time and lots of track time in Formula 2000, Corvettes and Firebirds. The course was mostly about safety but taught us the principles of good driving habits. Great experience. In 1999, I upgraded my ride to an 855 AWD M. My driving instructor impressed upon me that he felt all Canadian domestic cars should be AWD by law for reasons of safety, much like the current thinking on snow tire legislation in Quebec. I loved that car and chipped it to 225 HP w Dual exhaust. A very stylin' ride that did everything well. I went back to the Bridgestone school for another day of instruction at Mosport in 2005. By 2010, the 855 was costing a lot to repair. I started searching for a 04 V7RAWD M. I gave up as they were all beaten and planned to bite the bullet and keep the 855 in mint condition. Then in Sept. 2010 I found a V70 RAWD M that was terrific. I bought it on the spot. I now drive a stage 2 tuned car that is in excellent shape and will be my automotive passion for years to come.
