Normal engine compression for 86k motor?

3 posts in this topic

I'm looking at purchasing an R motor off of Ebay. The guy says " OK I got a chance to work with the engine today. Keep in mind I have no way of getting engine to operating temperature, also I can only turn it over by hand so pretty poor conditions to do a compression test. The numbers I got starting at the front and working back are: 1 - 96, 2 - 96, 3 -97, 4 - 95, 5 - 97. You would normally expect higher numbers for that engine with it warmed up and turned over with a starter, but I'm not sure you can compare. The consistency across cylinders looks good.

What do you guys think? is this good/bad?

Thanks for the help in advance=)

Cheers...

i DO NOT KNOW GOOD NUMBERS ON THOSE ENGINE"SSS.

but i can tell you this, if that was a motor off a gen 1 R, it would be a paper weight.

I would prefer to avoid being stuck with another paperweight lol. My 2.4 was bad enough. Albeit this appears to be an 06+ engine, so I should be safe there. Though it does spike my curiosity, what exactly makes the first gen r engines so unreliable?
