Value of Low Mileage 2004 S60R

Hi All - I'm not looking to sell anything up here, but am interested in seeing what opinions you may have on the value of my rig. Edmunds, NADA and KBB are all over the place and miles apart. I have a friend who's looking to buy it from me and frankly, I'm not sure I even want to part with her. It's a 2004 S60R, pretty much loaded save for navigation....and it's got just shy of 44,000 miles. 6 speed stick, sport package (moldings), climate package, 18" Pegasus wheels, entertainment package (sun roof, sound upgrade), metallic black amethyst paint, etc. Pristine condition. Garaged in winter. Only thing that differs from the attached pics are that I'm running Good Year Asymmetrics now. All stock, no after market performance enhancements. Recently, all new brakes (including rotors). Only maintenance issue I've had is needing to replace the clutch slave cylinder last summer. Any input would be appreciated!

S60R Clutch not engaging

Im new to the forum.

Ive been in love with Volvo for years now, and i recently decided to buy an R from an insurance auction through a dealer. I got a slammin deal we got the car for 5K with 65K miles an '05 total repairs would add up to around 2K, just body work, however when the car arrived yesterday a buddy of mine told me the dealer is planning on pulling some wires so that i would back out of the purchase and he can make a profit on the car. When i went to take a look at it today the car starts, goes into gear, but however the clutch doesn't seem to be grabbing. I know the car was driving because it has a 'run and drive' certificate from the auction. So basically the scammer of a dealer found a way to disengage the clutch, and i have no idea how to reverse this.

Some things that might help are that if i step on the clutch and throw into first gear, then pop the clutch, it doesnt stall out, all the gears go in weather im stepping on the clutch or not. And the car runs but goes nowhere, not even reverse. So it seems as if the clutch pedal does nothing at all. What the heck did he unplug to make the clutch basically a useless pedal?

To Buy or not to Buy?...Dilemma

Ok so I need some advice and input from all of you S60R fanatics....

Heres the issue I am trying to work out

I am currently looking to get a volvo s60r and get rid of my S70.....

I found a 2005 Volvo S60R Magic Blue 6Spd man with navigation and body kit. only 68k Miles.
I got the dealer down to $13,400 from the 15k he was asking for.

NOW

My Parents currently own a 2007 Volvo S60R 6spd manual titanium colored with 68k miles and navigation. They agreed to let me buy the car from them for pretty much the same price of the 2005. but that is if they can find a new car they want to buy

Both cars seem to be in pretty good shape and well cared for.

Obvious and best choice seems to be the 2007 over the 2005. But I really need a car asap and DO NOT want to wait for them to make up their mind on whether to get a new car or not....and the 2005 might not be on the lot much longer.

Do i wait two months for them to pick out a car? or do I snag the Magic blue before its gone?

Thoughts?

When turning right or left say 7-10 mph around a corner, just after the apex i release the wheel and begin to come out of the turn when I get a VERY distinct rubbing/slipping noise from the the front suspension somewhere. It happens turning both left and right. I can definitely feel it in the steering wheel. Then I found a road that is blacktop (so the ride is quite) and if I slightly swerve the car back and forth I can here the beginnings of the same issue. Its not 100% all the time but ~40%. I'm wondering if its a CV joint boot or something else.
Anyone experience the same?

Crossover pipe brackets

Original problem was a whooshing sound as I accelerated. Discovered the crossover pipe was not clamped to the turbo. Replaced the 0-ring and discovered the crossover pipe would not fully seated into the turbo. The two brackets holding the crossover pipe to the top of the engine were preventing it from fully seating.

Has anyone run into this?

Are there known issues from removing two brackets from holding the crossover pipe?

I've had the car over 50K miles, and since doing this, the power has noticibly improved.

WOW! I think I got a LEMON!

Ok so I have posted a few times on here before I bought my 2004 Volvo S60R... but now I have to let you guys know the update..

I cant believe this stuff... this is the list of problems that I have already come into with the car... thus making me leave it in the garage

-clutch problem: The car grinds when I put it in first or reverse so basically anything from a stop in fact the damn car has to be damn near forced into gear since sometimes it just wont go in at all. it then grinds from first to second almost every damn time!

-MAJOR SHUTTERING while driving.. now the front right rotor is visibly bad but it shakes from 55 to 60 mph so bad that the front right fog lamp has been broken and now just sitting in the housing.

-Power Steering pump grinding.. but not all the time which is weird! And yes I did check the fluid and trust me its full!

-Cruse control does not work. Which it says cruise on the dash but does not engage which I believe is the clutch switch at the pedal.

And I go down to central Oregon to try to help family run there business and because I stayed with my wife in warm springs they poking kicked a dent in the left rear door and put some scratches in it... which pissed me off a lot because the damn cars body was damn near perfect!

So there ya go... what a LEMON! I have only had this car for about 5 months or less.... and I have had nothing but problems since the begging! Does anyone have anything positive out there to say about these damn cars and there maintenance problems? lol I came from a Subaru STi and I had 2 small problems with that car for 4 years of service!

S60R - sometimes quick, sometimes slow?

Sometimes my car seems to rip, and other times it seems sluggish. It's a 2004 S60R manual.

Original cat, decat or sports cat?

As title,

I would like to know which is best for the S60R.

For the five cylinder noise and performance gains i would rather decat the exhaust system. However, i have heard completely removing the cat is a bad idea.

Is there any of you guys using a decat? Any advice is much appreciated.

Alright fellas (and ladies if your out there) I got my 3 inch turbo back installed. I deleted the catalytic converter and only kept a resonator. My cars computer is saying something is wrong with the bottom O2 sensor. Is there O2 sensors that will work with my car that I can buy and install or is it just getting a tune and retuning my cars computer to understand whats going on. What have you guys done to fix this problem if you have had to deal with it. Let me know.

The slave cylinder on my 2007 S60R went out and I've decided to replace it myself. The manual says you don't need the special compression tool to remove the old clutch and pressure plate if your going to replace them with new ones, but you need it to install the new ones. I do have a clutch alignment tool to hold the clutch plate in place and i'm able to install by hand the the pressure plate bolts without having to compress the presure plate. Do I really need the compression tool and why?

Resonator or no resonator?

So I am quite new to the forums. Bought a s60r yesterday. It is Black with the orange interior and has 76k miles on it. It is absolutely flawless. Anyway, pictures to come, but first i have a couple of questions for all of you s60R veterans. The first is I heard that the center resonator on the s60r is prone to warping and messing with the drive shaft when it gets wet and rapidly cools from the water (driving in a cold rainstorm for instance). I happen to live in the Pacific Northwest where driving in a torrential cold rainstorm happens about 75% of the year, and since i am a teenager that has to pay for insurance, I can not afford the luxury of taking my car out only when it is nice. I have heard two different fixes for this potential problem: a resonator delete or spacers. I am a little nervous about the resonator delete with straight piping because I do a lot of highway driving and i would not like to have to wear ear plugs while driving. So what do you guys think? Are there ways to keep the exhaust relatively normal sounding (within reason) while straight piping the exhaust? Also I have a couple other questions that i might as well ask while I am posting even though I am sure they have already been answered ( in the spirit of keeping the community on its toes!). I would like to do some performance modifications to the engine. I was thinking a air intake, chip, and exhaust system. I know i would love to get the Bell intercooler, but i can not afford it right now so what would you suggest for a good health amount of air? I would like to keep practical driving in mind and good fuel economy, but i also like to do some track driving every once in a while so what you you guys suggest as far as chipping the engine goes? And finally I would like an exhaust system that sounds mean and has an awesome tone to it that gives a little performance boost, but not super loud. What DP, exhaust system, and muffler would you all suggest for me? And one final question.... I know this is a heated topic and might take up a full page by itself, but what is a decent winter tire that is affordable? I know there are specific topics for that question, but they all seem like they are looking for the best "sport" snow tire. I do ski patrol in the winter, so all i need is a good multi directional tire that is relaible and is not too loud on the highway. I dont need anything studded, but a nice tread would be good. Any input for a S60 R newbie would be greatly appreciated even if it is "don't be a douche and ask the same questions that other people have already asked you teenage novice *scof*" Anyway, thank you in advance! -Jack

Heat and loose power

Hi,

I have an automatic 2006 s60 R with 52K and I experienced some problems but enable to find a solution.

Today on a 100 miles run I received a heat warning from the computer but the temperature gauge is OK and then I completely lose the turbo power. I stop for gas and when I restart the turbo came back. The same story happen on my way back. Except the fact that I lost the turbo, no smell of overheating but I experienced some hardshift.

Here's more info, lately I experienced randomly hesitation from the turbo around 3000 - 4000 rpm. Also i experienced hardshift, more frequently when I shift in the 3000-4000 rpm range and more noticeable for the 2nd and the 3rd gear. I decided the change the transmission fluid but no change. I feel the hardshift problem are more electronic than mechanics, but this is just a feeling because it's not all the time.

Thanks for helping me.

Hey guys so I need some help. I drive a 2004 Volvo s60R auto. With all maintenance done on time by Volvo. For the past month or so whenever I try to give it more then 40% or more throttle the car just doesn’t accelerate. It makes a sputtering sound threw the exhaust and it will very very slowly accelerate. I usually have to ease off the gas and pedal it. While this is happening the boost gauge usually starts to flutter. Does anyone know what this could be? My first guess is the transmission is slipping but I’m not sure I’ve never had an auto do this before. But if anyone could help me out that would be great. Thank you.

The car has 119,000 miles on it. (so if anyone has an R they are selling I am very interested as long as its 06 or newer)

S60 Sunroof issue

I bought a used 2007 S60 AWD a couple weeks ago. Today, my daughter drove it and opened the sunroof. When she tried to close it, it would only go about 3/4 closed. When the sunroof on these cars is opened, a "wind blocker" pops up in the front (not sure what to call it). Whatever that thing is called the bracket that holds it in place on the passenger side has come loose. This bracket was originally glued in place with a silicone type glue. I have a few questions:

I removed the entire wind block and loose bracket. I figured with this removed I'd be able to at least get the sunroof closed. Nope, it will only close 3/4 way. Any ideas as to how to get it to close all the way? It is supposed to rain all weekend...

My HOPE is that if I glue the bracket back in place and reinstall the wind block device then the sunroof will close. Does this sound accurate?

I know I will have to clean the area with lacquer thinner before re-gluing the bracket in place. Can anyone suggest what I should use as a glue and where I can get it?

What type of grease should I use on the sunroof tracks to replace any that is removed during this repair?

Thanks in advance for your input!

ck engine light after ecu upgrade

This 2005 S60 R car was modificed with a full exhaust system, including down pipe by ELEVATE, new intake by IPD, and ECU upgrades by ELEVATE. Since installing this equipment, the check engine light is a constant threat, it will go off spontaneously and sometimes stay off for weeks providing that driving habits are completely consistent over that time. If you drive easy and commute only a few miles every day the light will stay off. If you drive aggressively the light will come back on almost immediately. Likewise if you drive on the highway at constant speed for hours the light will go off at the next stop and stay off providing you continue highway driving. If you return home and return to your commuting schedule the light will reappear and remain on for a couple of weeks until after a further couple of weeks of consistent driving it decides to go off again.

I have read the ECU codes and typically they are as follows: IAT faulty signal (The IAT/MAP sensor has been replaced) and MAF sensor too low (MAF sensor has also been replaced). I all respects including fuel economy the car runs well and no engine issues seem to preceed the appearance of the check engine light. I have discussed this problem with the dealer (who has been very helpful) and IPD and ELEVATE, many suggestions have been tried but no solutions found.

About to buy.. maintenance opinions?

I am looking at a sweet deal on a 2004 S60R, 40,000 miles. Been hearing these cost a lot to maintain. Need some feedback on what to expect...

I am comfortable working on cars, have torn engines down, etc. I plan to do basic maintenance myself.. change filters, oil, etc. That should cut costs quite a bit. But, been hearing things like.. tires last only 25K miles, timing belt replacement at 105K miles, the throttle module (forget the exact name) needs replaced around 100K and they charge about $1000 to do it, it eats thru brake parts, etc.

I intend to use it as my daily commuter. I won't race it, but occasionally, well.. you know. But essentially, would enjoy an upscale ride, if I can get it on the cheap.

What should I expect, what's your experience?

Now this pisses me off. I entered into a driveway and there was a truck fast approaching in my rear view so I wanted to clear the road as fast as possible. When entering I made sure my front spoiler didn't scrap or hit when I when in. The incline was more than I wanted. I cleared the front, but when I went over the incline, the concrete lip hit my exhaust right after the muffler and put a nice ding in it. Furthermore, it mated my muffler's back edge to my freaken drive shaft. There is a cross-member to protect, but it simply bend this piece down. I stopped immediately and unbolted the cross-member but could see the problem with the drive shaft and muffler. Due to the height of the car i couldn't separate the two there in the parking lot, but I could see a Jiffy Lube about 1000' from where I was. I drove directly there, and I am sure I screwed things up by doing so. I drove it over the bay and talked the guy into letting me get under the car. I used a couple of their rags to wrap around the exhaust, and also pulled one of the rear hangers off, and proceeded to pull down to separate. I succeeded in doing so, then i had to put the bolts from the cross-member back in place to keep the heat shield in place and not laying on the shaft itself. But the damage was done, the drive shaft have a complete carve mark on it from the muffler scraping on it like it was on a lathe. I am sure its bent, it vibrates where it hadn't before. I am also getting a feeling in the car at low speeds similar to riding on a rail road and hitting every wooden piece. Like a trotting feeling while being on a horse. So I have to check that out to see what that it. Not sure if I shook something not related to the shaft loose. I always knew the shaft and the exhaust were close, mainly due to the rain squeal, but now I see first hand.

Anyone else ever do something as stupid as this? Anyone have any thoughts or ideas? I know I am going to need to replace the drive shaft, any thoughts on a vendor to purchase.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

New S60 R-Design IS the new R!

Dear Volvo Retailer,
The XC60 and the all-new S60 have certainly proven themselves already in the market place.
Both have had more than their fair share of awards and accolades, and the strong demand in the
market place is, perhaps, the best compliment of all. With the opening of the New York
International Auto Show tomorrow, the good news for
both models continues. That's because we will issue a
press release presenting the aggressive S60 T6 RDesign,
which will tout 325 horsepower and 354 lb.ft.
of torque! That's the most power we have ever had
under the hood of one of our production cars, and it's
25 horsepower and 29 lb.ft. more torque than the
already potent T6 engine. And the good news is
contagious, because those same numbers also apply to
the XC60 T6 R-Design starting in MY12!
More;
And like the original R, the S60 T6 R-Design will
deliver in more ways than just power. Stefan Sallqvist,
was the manager of Vehicle Dynamics at Volvo Cars
during the development of the R-Design chassis and
suspension. Stefan recently explained that "the
challenge was to boost the dynamics without making
the chassis feel raw." The chassis team achieved their
objective by first shortening the front and rear springs
by 15mm to give the car more visual attitude and
lowering the center of gravity just a touch. Spring
stiffness is increased 15 percent compared to the
standard T6 Dynamic chassis; and the bushings
attaching the rear dampers to the body are also 20
percent stiffer.

The S60 T6 R-Design builds on the superb S60
styling, with a range of unique exterior and interior
design elements. From the glossy piano black grill, to
the intimidating air intake right under it, all the way to
the rear exhaust baffle, this car is designed to turn
heads as it passes by in the fast lane.
Like all R-Design models, the S60 T6 R-Design
features unique five-spoke Ixion 18-inch diamond cut alloy
wheels. It also features the now iconic silver silk metal
side-view mirrors; 90 mm dual exhaust tips, and let's not
forget the R-Design exclusive, Passion Red paint!

More:
The interior features sport seats with deeper side bolsters to
support the driver (and passenger) in the hard turns. In North
America, the S60 R-Design will only be available in the unique offblack
leather upholstery with an embossed R-Design logo and
contrasting stitching and a sport-oriented textured leather accent. Of
course the interior also features the R-Design elements you have
come to expect, like the blue instrument cluster, steering wheel with
the R-Design logo, unique gear lever and dash inlay.
If we try to put the overall S60 T6 R-Design package into
perspective, the Audi S4 with an automatic transmission, starts
at $48,500 and only offers eight more horses while delivering
325 lb.ft. of torque, or 29 lb.ft. less than the S60 T6 R-Design;
and as you'll see when you turn the pages, the S60 T6 RDesign
will launch with an MSRP of $42,275! That's over
$6,000 less than the S4. And as you can see below and to the
right, we're better than the standard BMW 335i xDrive in power
and horsepower at almost $3,000 less at a showroom equipped
level. If you're still not convinced, keep in mind the original
S60R only had 300 hp and 295 lb.ft. of torque! If you're
wondering, the MSRP of the XC60 T6 R-Design will be $43,150.

The S60 T6 R-Design takes S60 performance to the next
level. As we've seen with the introduction of unique chassis
executions; first on the C30 R-Design, then the XC60, the R-Design is much more than just an
appearance package. The additional power and torque on the new S60 R-Design and the XC60 RDesign
now provide proof in the numbers. These cars truly set themselves apart from the
competition with their exceptional performance characteristics, aggressive design and attractive
price point. We are very excited to welcome the S60 T6 R-Design alongside the XC60 T6 R-Design
into the Volvo family. Be sure to take a look at the Product Guides already on VRC2 for more
product details; and be sure to read through the press release and hero card attached, both to be
released tomorrow.
Doug Speck summed up the impact of the R-Design this way, "Sales of the S60 and XC60 have
grown rapidly since they entered our showrooms, quickly making them the 1st and 2nd best-sellers
in our range. We anticipate these R-Designs will continue to build on this momentum!" The RDesigns
will debut in August and will start showing up in your pipeline next month!

Seat too high

Recently I bought a S60R and I just can not find decent position behind the wheel. Compared to first gen. V70R even the lowest position of seat is too high and I feel like I am driving a van/suv in it..

Is there a possibility of setting the lowest point of seat lower than it is today? I understand, that in case it is already physically on the bottom, it can not be done. I thought of some resetting the motors to find new lowest point.
