2000 VR in Santa Fe

Whoever deleted that post please don't, it wasn't as sale post
Anyhow I didn't buy it, it sold for $4K even with 106K miles but I had no idea what it needed, it was sold as-is and with at least looking at a $900 transporation bill to get it back here, I passed!
If the bidding had stalled in the low to mid 3s I probably would have bid but unfortunately it didn't.....

Looking to buy 98 R

Heres a bit of an inside scoop on this car its a

1998 Volvo v70r
Black on Black with the R wheels
Has 139K
Brand new set of 4 tires
T belt has been done in the last 20K miles or so
He has a carfax that signifies that this car is a 1 owner.
No rust
Car will also come with a valid state inspection, this gentleman has been selling cars for the last 10 years. Seemed like a very knowledgeable cat.

Is there anything other then the ABS / PCV issues that I should be looking for?

I appreciate any feedback and thanks in advance

However there were 30 Laser Blue imported (w/ both interior colors - L.Bge Lt/Suede or Grp/Gry Lt/Suede)

My paint code is #441 on the label under the hood.
Pretty sure the interior is Black with the 2-tone seats. I'm confused.
It got me to thinking that someone just added a "R" on the tailgate and called it an "R" wagon.
Ran a Vin decoder below and it mentions nothing about it being an "R". Just AWD.

Cant get my 98V70R to start

Ok this saga started a few months ago, I have a 98 V70R with about a 150,000 miles on it, the timing chain was replaced at 117,000
It is Not a daily driver, I have taken it on long trips from Ft laud to Philly Non stop up and back and it ran FLAWLESS, after that trip a few 600 mile trips also flawless. Then I just used her on the weekends and then just here and there...but always started once every few weeks and driven around a little...always perfect.
Well I went to pressure clean the paver driveway and moved her across the street, about 20-30 minutes later started her up to move her back and she started to idle real strange...very rough and an up and down idle....started to back it up and she stalled out. Started up and it still ran rough and smelled funny out of the exhaust and the exhaust was smoking. Shut it off and they tried starting it again and same thing.
I got a code reader hooked it up and at first got the 0103 code(MAF sensor) There were a few times that I started it and it tried to run normal/idel normal for a few seconds then would not hold idel even when pressing the accelerator pedal then it would die. I unhooked the MAF sensor and it still ran bad and actually would not even really idle at all.

Anyway after the intial Code reader hookup I unplugged it and tried to start the car...same thing and when I hooked the reader up got the 0103 code but also 0203 0243 codes. But in reading a lot of people say that the Maf sensor can cause other codes to flash. I also got the 0410 code but most chalk that up to the gas cap as I had that code before whent he car ran perfect...since the engine light was on and I wanted to know why.

Well I went away for a month and a half for the holidays and when I got back I got a Brand new Bosch MAF sensor but before I put it in I tried one more time to start the car and see if anything had changed...but now it would not even start. So I changed the MAF sensor and went to start the car and it wont start at all. Checked to make sure all lines etc where connected and nothing...I put the old MAF back in and still nothing. So I changed the MAF sensor and the car wont start? Now before I left for a month plus it would at least start but since I got back it wont even start and now not sure what to do?

PS I also unhooked the battery after changing the MAF sensor to charge it and then reconnected it
I also put 3 gallons of fresh gas in the tank...there were a couple of cranks where it tried to catch and actually (caught) it seemed once for literally 1 second
Any help is appreciated as I am not sure what to do at this point
Thanks
Also no I have no run a code scanner on it since I changed the MAF sensor as I loaned it out and cant get a hold of the guy

Question on IPD turbo control valve

I have a new to me nice low milage (105K, nearly immaculate) R that I just bought. Pretty excited (and this is also my 3rd V70, 2nd R). The only thing is this one has slightly lower power than my last one and I feel like the turbo isn't boosting nearly as much as it should be. I've checked the hoses and can't find any cracks or leaks anywhere at this point. It had a IPD Heavy Duty turbo control valve installed on it when I got it. The car mostly just sat as a 3rd vehicle for a home owner in Lake Tahoe, so there were months where the battery was dead. I was reading the IPD instructions for the heavy duty TCV and it mentions that the computer is a "learning" and there is a "teach your computer" process when you fist install it. This is the "get to operating temp with no boost/idleing, drive to 1/2 boost 4 times, then let sit for 12 minutes" routing. Would the months where the battery is dead cause the computer to forget its tuning for the IPD control valve? Do I need to do this again and this would explain why I'm seeing low boost? If so, how long do I need to keep the battery disconnected so I can re-teach it to use the IPD tcv?

thanks!
Andre
Here is the car, by the way...
Wife calls and says she hears a noise.
Doesn't bother to say it a VERY LOUD noise, I say come home, (she's 24 miles away).
I turn it on, shut it right off, hell of a racket and it has a burning smell.
I figure since it's running so I might as well pull it inside the garage.

Pulled the cover off, tensioner is shredding, belt is shredding and the T belt had almost fallen off!

NO tension whatsover on the belt.

The T belt was changed early on her car, at 56K miles and 6 years ago!
Probably the T belt only and no tensioner as was the practice 6 years ago*(&#(&*^$&*

Smoking after coasting/high-vac

I swear, my car is screaming for attention lately. I've been noticing this for a while, and now it's time to fix the sucker. 181k miles on the clock, and what the car is doing is this. Let's say that I go down a long hill out of my neighborhood, coasting. Vac is showing 20 inches of merc, and then as soon as I get back on the gas, there's this glorious swirl of smoke (gotta be oil) in the back window. It's pretty in a acid trippy way, but can't be good. This is happening with regularity now, and I'm not sure what the deal is. Here's my thoughts, what do you think?

Possibilities:

1) Valve seats are leaking - I've read these can be replaced w/o removing the head... not sure how hard the job is, gotta look

2) Turbo seals are going - I don't think this is it, but possible. It doesn't blow smoke unless I've been sucking vac, which points to #1

3) PVC clogged - Issue is, I replaced the entire system with brand new parts about 20k miles ago, probably less

So, why do you think my car's blowing oil, and what have you experienced? I hate to say it, but I put some "No Smoke" in it, and the smoking stopped for a bit, but is back. This is why I'm thinking it's valve seat seals... the No Smoke may have swelled them, to seal them from leaking, but that wears off.

Suggestions?

Violent idle when warm

Have an issue with my 2000 V70r. Once the engine warms up, the idle gets VERY rough. Almost to the point where you think it is going to stal. Car starts running rich. Once moving, all seems fine. Recently did the PCV system and 02 sensors. Rechecked for vac leaks, non to be found. If I unplug the maf, idle shoots up as normal, engine smooths out for a few seconds, the starts running rich and idling poorly again. Only trouble codes are for front o2 and upper fuel limit. Any ideas? On the verge of walking away from it and getitng something newer.

I've looked at the 3" down pipes from ipd and others, and am leaning towards the Volvo S60R V70R S60 High Performance Race Downpipe USA that race-s60r is selling on eBay.

Plus, if I'm going that way, why not replace the exh manifold with one from an 04 S60R? Used ones seem reasonably priced from Erie.

Only questionable item will be the turbo itself. Boost is good, and it will be inspected upon removal.

What are your thoughts on this mod to the car? And how do I made sure I end up with a system that all mates up? I'm concerned about the angled vs straight interfaces.

It Won't Run...

So, I went out last night to get a book that my daughter needed for her sophomore honors Lit class, and I'm minding my own business, driving down the freeway. It's snowing and all of the other idiots are driving 30mph. I passed some cars, and when I got back into the right hand lane, my car loses power, and basically is coasting down. I pulled off the freeway, into a Ford dealership as luck would have it, and the car's stalling and will barely move. I try repeatedly to refire, and it only starts and immediately stalls. I didn't have my code reader to pull codes unfortunately.

It was acting as though I'd blown an intercooler hose, which I've done before in the cold when driving like an idiot. However, I can't find any loose hoses.

So, the car is parked at the Ford dealer (they really wanted me to buy a new Focus), and I'm going to take it to my mechanic in the morning. In the meantime, I'm trying to get an idea of what went south here? My mind goes to two financially different parts on the car. First, the ETM may have died. Second, it could just be the TPS. One is $700, and the other is $60 for the parts.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm SERIOUSLY thinking it's time for a new car, and may just put the car up for sale. It's been great, but I really want a C30.

stock 99 v70r, i have my winter tires and rims on now, but need new summers on the 17" pegs i have.

my work has 225/50/17 and 215/55/17 in stock, what one would be best to not rub, give a half decent ride, and not look goofy with a ton of space in the wheel wells?

i would prefer that the wheel wells not have a lot of open space.

if none of the 2 sizes above are good, what size would you use?

I have a set that came with my V70R but I like the rims that came on the car better. Anyways, I am in need of some money and was thinking of selling my set of Volans. Are these desirable to the Volvo community at all. How much could I sell them for with tires on them? Thank you.
